Segura joins Industrial Engineering Department

Dr. Luis Segura has joined the Department of Industrial Engineering in the Speed School as an Assistant Professor effective Spring 2022.

Dr. Segura’s research interests lie in the integration of physics-based and data-driven models to optimize processes and product quality in advance manufacturing. His teaching interests include statistical quality control, data analytics, and manufacturing systems.

Dr. Segura received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University at Buffalo (UB) in 2021. He also received a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas-ESPE, Ecuador (2007) and a M.Sc. in Manufacturing Systems from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2010) as a Fulbright Scholar. From 2014 to 2018, he was a faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering department at ESPE. Prior to that, he also worked in the automotive systems design program at the Technical University of Eindhoven (TUe), Netherlands.

His honors include a NSF travel award for the MSEC 2019 and 2021, Fulbright Scholarship in 2010, 1st place in UB ISE’s 2020 poster competition, honorable mention UB ISE researcher of the year in 2020, and a presidential fellowship. He is member of INFORMS, IISE, and ASME.
