Capstone Design & Innovation
What is our capstone program?
The J.B. Speed School of Engineering Capstone Design Course provides industry and community partners the opportunity to work with the next generation of engineering talent on innovative and impactful projects.
Over the span of a single semester (~ 12 weeks), teams of 3 to 5 senior-level undergraduate engineering students will collaborate with an industry contact from your company to understand the requirements and scope of a real-world project. The student team will take the lead in planning, designing, and executing the project, applying their technical knowledge and collaborative problem-solving skills. The goal of this partnership is to offer your company a unique opportunity to engage with emerging engineering talent and gain innovative, team-driven solutions.

Each semester culminates in the Engineering Design and Innovation Showcase, where students present their design solutions and working prototypes. This exciting event is free and open to the public, providing an excellent opportunity to network with students, faculty, and industry professionals. How to Submit a Proposal
Submitting a capstone project through EduSourced is simple. If you’re new to EduSourced, an account will be created automatically with your submission. If you already have an account, just use the same email and your new project will be linked to it.
Once submitted, your project will be reviewed by the capstone coordinator and faculty. If accepted, you’ll receive a confirmation email. The review and approval process typically takes two weeks. EduSourced is designed to be easy and unobtrusive—you’ll only receive notifications when action is needed, such as submitting feedback or completing a milestone. You can also log in at any time to track your project’s progress.

Senior Spotlight
The Engineering Design & Innovation Showcase is Speed School’s capstone design requirement for seniors from our various departments. Held during the spring semester, this competitive exhibition features student teams who collaborated together with their project partners to develop prototypes or solutions for real-world challenges. Through this experience, you will gain vital knowledge that makes you workforce-ready upon graduation.
The Showcase also includes the top six teams from the ENGIII Cornerstone Project, a multidisciplinary, team-based venture that all first-year engineering students take. Our Cornerstone engineering challenge focuses on integration and application of fundamental engineering skills, and this project experience prepares you early in your academic career for your senior-year capstone endeavor.
