ASCE Student Officers Win/Place at ASCE CI Competition

Three CEE students, Alex Delgado Beebe, Ryn Kalbfleisch and Sophie Lipomanis, were selected to attend the American Society of Civil Engineers 2019 Construction Institute (CI) Student Days (ascestudentdays.org).

The ASCE CI is a five-day competition event that occurred this summer from July 19 to July 23 in Arlington, VA. Over 400 students applied to the 2019 CI, and only 30 students were accepted. During the CI competition, each UofL student was on a separate team, and both Alex and Ryn were selected to be team captains.

Sophie Lipomanis’ team was awarded 2nd place overall. In addition, both Alex and Sophie were honored as best speakers in the conference team competitions. As such, ASCE program organizers are sending both Sophie and Alex to the National ASCE CI 2020 Summit in Los Angeles, CA, with ASCE providing some travel expenses for the trip.

“As a representative of those who attended the event, we wanted to thank J.B. Speed School and the CEE Department for the professional development that allowed us to compete at such a high level,” said Sophie Lipomanis. She and Alex Beebe are now fund raising to cover the airfare costs to the ASCE CI summit in February 2020.
