Centennial

Celebrating 100 Years of Engineering Education

As we celebrate 100 years of education, innovation, and impact, it’s an honor to reflect on the legacy of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. For a century, Speed School has shaped the landscape of engineering education and empowered generations of problem-solvers, researchers, and leaders to tackle some of society’s greatest challenges. From our co-op program’s foundational importance to our alumni’s lasting contributions across industries, our mission has remained consistent: to deliver an education that is rigorous but also experience-based to prepare students for technical leadership in a rapidly evolving world.

This centennial year is the perfect opportunity to look both backward and forward. The grand opening of the new Engineering Student Success & Research Building marks an exciting next chapter in our journey. With its Engineering Gateway to all of our student support teams, dynamic active learning classrooms, collaboration spaces, and state-of-the-art research labs, this facility is a bold investment in the future of engineering at the University of Louisville.
