Jonathan Hughes, Director

Higher Education professional with over 5 years of higher education experience in recruitment and student success. A graduate from the University of Louisville with a M.A. in Education Administration, where he held the student position of president for the School of Education. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. in higher education administration at the University of Louisville. Jonathan has presented research at the regional and national level with a focus on students of color and low socioeconomic status, access, student success, and organizational leadership. Jonathan began his professional career as a graduate assistant for REACH academic services, followed by a stint with the Cardinal Covenant program and undergraduate office of admissions. Jonathan began working full time for the undergraduate office of admissions in 2013 as an academic counselor, afterwards, transitioning to the JB Speed School of Engineering as the assistant director of admissions from 2015 to July 2019 and is now the Director of Admissions.

Yeimy Pina Perez, Assistant Director of Outreach

Yeimy graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in December 2019 with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a B.A. in Spanish studies. As an undergrad, Yeimy worked closely with the Latino community on and off EKU’s campus. She also volunteered and mentored in college readiness summer camps during high school and undergrad for over 7 years. Yeimy extended her time at EKU by working in the undergraduate admissions office as an admissions counselor for almost two years. During her time at EKU she gained experience in recruiting prospective students from various diverse backgrounds. Yeimy found a passion for community involvement during her time volunteering and mentoring in the community. This led her to join the admissions team at J.B. Speed School of Engineering as the Assistant Director of Outreach. Her goal as the Assistant Director of Outreach for the JB Speed School of Engineering is to continue supporting partnerships, generate and execute ideas, and building strong relationships within the community.

Elizabeth Frazier, Admissions Counselor

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Louisville in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. As an undergrad, she worked closely with Dr. Carrie Mott and the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice as a research assistant. She also worked in the Undergraduate Admissions Office for over two years, one of which she spent as a Diversity Student Ambassador. Her goal as Admissions Counselor for the JB Speed School of Engineering is to bolster the program’s recruitment and retainment especially among students from historically underrepresented communities.
