Jonathan Hughes, Director

Jonathan Hughes, Ph.D., is Executive Director of Admissions and Community Engagement at the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering. With over a decade of experience in enrollment management, admissions, and student success, he leads initiatives to expand access to STEM fields while fostering partnerships with K–12 schools, nonprofits, and industry.

Dr. Hughes earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville, where his research examined the influence of financial aid on stop-out and persistence. He has presented nationally on equity, access, and organizational leadership in higher education and secured external funding to support diversity in STEM, including leading the Women in Engineering Day initiative.

In addition to his administrative leadership, Dr. Hughes serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Urban & Public Affairs, where he teaches interdisciplinary courses on cities, urban life, research methods, and the intersections of engineering, planning, and social equity. His service includes board and advisory roles with local schools and nonprofits, as well as university committees focused on diversity and inclusion. He has been recognized with the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Principles Award and the Speed School’s Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award.

Annie Mayer, Admissions Counselor I

A Louisville native, Annie graduated from Xavier University in May 2019 with an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, as well as minors in Entrepreneurial Studies and Digital Innovation . As an undergrad, she worked as the Student Recruitment Coordinator for her respective department, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In her early career, she balanced work as an independent artistic contractor, as well as an educator for the Kentucky Science Center, facilitating STEM education for over 40 counties across the Kentuckiana region. In her role as an Admissions Counselor, her goal is to spark curiosity in and provide resources for the next generation of problem solvers. She hopes to both recruit and retain a community of engineers that fully represents the diverse cultural landscape of Louisville.
