Transferring to the University of Louisville

Students with fewer than 12 transferable semester hours are considered in a similar fashion as freshman students and must meet the admissions requirements for new freshmen and have a minimum college grade point average of 2.8. Students with 12 hours or more transferable semester hours must have a 2.8 cumulative college grade point average, Reading ACT of at least 20 (or successful completion of ENGL 101 or equivalent), and at least B- grades in each of the following courses: Pre-Calculus (MATH 190 or equivalent) and Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM 101 or equivalent). Algebra plus Trig or Adv Math can be substituted for Pre-Calculus. All applicants meeting admissions criteria will be reviewed by Speed School Admissions for decision.

Students with 24 hours or more transferable semester hours must have a 2.8 cumulative college grade point average and at least B- grades in each of the following courses: Pre-Calculus (MATH 190 or equivalent) and Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM 101 or equivalent). Algebra plus Trig or Adv Math can be substituted for Pre-Calculus. All applicants meeting admissions criteria will be reviewed by Speed School Admissions for decision.

In addition to the minimum grade requirements for Calculus I and General Chemistry I, the Speed School of Engineering requires a minimum “D-” grade for any transferred course to be accepted as credit toward a degree. A transfer student must earn at least sixty semester hours applicable toward the baccalaureate degree at a fully accredited four-year program at a college or university. Thirty of the last thirty-six semester hours must be earned at the University of Louisville and at least 25% of the degree program hours must be earned at University of Louisville.

Evaluation of Transfer Credit

The Office of Transfer Services evaluates transfer credit and academic units advise about courses needed for degree completion after the student has been admitted to the University of Louisville. Transfer work that is college-level, academic in nature and earned at appropriately accredited programs will be accepted and posted as credit earned (i.e., with no grade).  The School of Engineering requires a minimum “C” grade for any transferred course to be accepted as credit toward a degree.

A transfer student must earn at least sixty (60) semester hours applicable toward the baccalaureate degree at a fully accredited four-year program at a college or university.  Thirty of the last thirty-six semester hours must be earned at the University of Louisville.

Computer Requirement

Undergraduate and transfer students at the J. B. Speed School of Engineering are required to have a mobile computer with an active digital pen meeting the minimum specifications at the link below. Graduate students should have a laptop.
