The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department is to supply quality academic instruction, conduct fundamental and applied research, and provide professional service in support of the institutional objectives of the University of Louisville, all in the context of a five-year, accredited, Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree program that includes cooperative education and a major design experience.

Dr. Gautam Gupta, Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering and Dr. Bikram Bhatia, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering along with a veritable village of collaborators including more than 20 undergrad, graduate and PhD students; faculty, volunteers and numerous community partners, have worked to develop an oxygen concentrator (OxyCart) that can help address a global shortage of oxygen.
