Missions & Objectives
The mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is to provide high quality electrical and computer engineering undergraduate and graduate programs that engage in research and experiential scholarship to advance knowledge and assist in the economic development of the greater Louisville region, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the nation through education and technology transfer.
Bachelor of Science Program Educational Objectives1
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering programs in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department are expected within a few years of graduation to have:
- Established themselves in successful and productive careers or advanced studies in electrical engineering or a related area, possess technical competency in electrical engineering, and are effective team members and effective communicators.
- Demonstrated the ability to engage in lifelong learning in electrical engineering and related fields.
- Acquired a sense of professionalism, with emphasis on professional ethics, an awareness of professional licensing, and participation in the affairs of the profession.
Bachelor of Science Student Outcomes
The specific educational outcomes which the students can expect to derive from the Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering program are:
- The ability to apply knowledge of the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering fundamentals to the solution of electrical engineering problems.
- The ability to design and conduct experiments in electrical engineering, and to analyze and interpret the data generated by those experiments.
- The ability to design components, devices, and systems to meet specified needs in electrical engineering, within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
- The ability to function effectively on multi-disciplinary teams which may involve people from diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to identify, formulate and solve problems in electrical engineering.
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- The ability to demonstrate effective communication in the field of electrical engineering.
- Attainment of the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
- The ability to recognize and respond to the need for lifelong learning for a successful career in electrical engineering.
- An understanding of contemporary technical and professional issues in the practice of electrical engineering.
