Professional Engineering Awards presented at Homecoming Dinner

Five Speed School alumni were presented with the Professional Award in Engineering (PAE) and one alum received the Outstanding Young Engineer (OYE) during the 2019 Speed School Homecoming celebration held October 25 at the Brown Hotel.
Recipients of the PAE were LaTres Jarrett (Chemical Engineering), Angela Akridge (Civil & Environmental Engineering), Ali Sareea (Computer Engineering/Computer Science), Dr. Jerry Branson (Electrical & Computer Engineering), and Danny Wang (Industrial Engineering). The OYE awards was presented to Dhruvinkumar Patel for Bioengineering. Materials Handling Systems was recognized as the Outstanding Corporate Partner.
Criteria for the PAE is
- Outstanding career performance in engineering such as a major executive, inventor, educator, in government service, medicine or the humanities.
- Exceptional efforts by an individual to foster the professional development of young engineering college students.
- Exceptional ability in the planning and direction of significant and important projects in technical engineering.
- Exceptional contribution by an individual to technical engineering knowledge.
Jorge I. Lanz was presented with the Leadership Through Inclusion Alumni Award for his contribution to and enhancement to the field of engineering while demonstrating an exceptional understanding of diversity and inclusiveness beyond hisregular duties.
