Badri Narayanan, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering focused on structure-property-processing relationships in functional materials and reactive interfaces relevant for energy applications. He is a recipient of the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award and funded by the Department of Energy for high performance lithium-ion battery research.

Mechanical Engineering

In Mechanical Engineering (ME), you will be trained to design, develop, test, and manufacture components or processes that do useful work.  Examples are everywhere and include (but are not limited to) transportation systems (cars, planes, ships, etc.), home and commercial air conditioning/heating systems, clean power generation, home appliances, medical devices, manufacturing equipment, etc.  Mechanical Engineering is a foundational branch of engineering because ME’s are needed to contribute to the development of an incredibly wide variety of systems.

About Mechanical Engineering

In Mechanical Engineering at UofL is a full-time, four-year program.  Throughout the program, you will take interesting, challenging courses, including dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design I & II, heat transfer, and senior design.  Interspersed will be three paid industrial co-ops, providing invaluable professional experience and helping balance the cost of your education.  Interested students can also take advantage of undergraduate research opportunities within the department.  This, taken with the optional 5th year Masters of Engineering program, makes UofL ME both unique and a great opportunity.
